Chris came to academia in midlife after spending his 20s and early 30s as an entrepreneur. Studying part-time while raising a family and working as a visiting lecturer, he gained an MBA from London Business School, an MSc in Organisational and Social Psychology from the London School of Economics, and a PhD in Management examining innovation teams, venture capital partnerships and leadership.

He then joined the UCL School of Management and eventually became director of the MSc in Technology Entrepreneurship. At UCL, he also won five teaching awards in six years.

In 2016, Chris joined Cambridge Judge Business School, where he founded the University’s first Master's degree in Entrepreneurship. In 2019 he co-founded Carbon13, a talent-first climate venture builder, serving as CEO until 2023. His current practical work centres on developing two venture builders with partners, advancing business ecosystems through Faster Climate Impact, and connecting academic research with venture creation, strategy, design and innovation policy.

His current teaching spans strategy, entrepreneurship and ecosystem strategy across MBA, EMBA, MPhil and engineering programmes, alongside executive education on AI and innovation.
