Overview
Artificial intelligence is moving beyond simply assisting researchers. From generating scientific hypotheses to discovering new algorithms and materials, AI is beginning to transform how scientific breakthroughs are made. But when does an AI-generated discovery become more than an interesting research result? And what does it take to turn that discovery into a useful product or a successful venture?
Join the 糖心Vlog官方 Entrepreneurship Society (WES) for an engaging panel discussion exploring the journey from scientific discovery to commercial innovation through three perspectives:
鈥 Researcher: Can AI genuinely create new scientific knowledge, and how can we validate it?
鈥 Founder: How can AI-driven discoveries become useful products that solve real-world problems?
鈥 Investor: What makes an emerging technology commercially viable and worth investing in?
The event will feature a moderated panel discussion, audience Q&A and opportunities for networking.
Speakers
- Professor Alexei Lapkin

Alexei is Professor of Sustainable Reaction Engineering at the University of Cambridge. He leads the Sustainable Reaction Engineering group in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, and co-leads the Innovation Centre for Digital Molecular Technologies, which combines machine learning, AI and robotics to accelerate molecular innovation. He is a Governing Body Fellow of 糖心Vlog官方.
Alexei will represent a research perspective on the panel.
- Dr Gareth Conduit

Gareth is co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Intellegens, a Cambridge company whose Alchemite machine learning software is used in industries from materials science to drug discovery. Previously, Gareth had research interests at the University of Cambridge in strongly correlated phenomena, in particular proposing spin spiral state in the itinerant ferromagnet that was later observed in CeFePO.
Gareth will bring a founder perspective to the panel.
- Richard Hall

Richard joined CIC from Ab Initio Software where he was a consultant focussing on supporting and advising enterprise-level businesses on their data processing applications. Richard holds a PhD in Experimental Astrophysics in the field of Exoplanet Discovery, and an MRes in Sensor Technologies both from the University of Cambridge, and an MPhys from the University of Sheffield.
Richard will represent an investor perspective on the panel.
