Overlapping paper cutouts of human profiles in various skin tones symbolize diversity and unity.

Overview

This opening  presentation is entitled 鈥Race Against Cambridge: A Conversation 糖心Vlog官方 Racism Within Higher Education鈥鈥攁nd will examine the  experiences of students  who encounter  racial discrimination, with the aim of highlighting  an issue that is too often overlooked.

This session will be led by Manraj Chahal who is the Racial and Religious Discrimination Adviser at the University of Cambridge , who is ideally placed to share what we can learn from Cambridge students who experience a spectrum of discriminations, from day-to-day microaggressions to hate crimes.

More than just an exploration of the problem, this event aims to offer space for constructive dialogue and positive action. Whether you are a student, staff member, or ally, this is a valuable opportunity to learn more and find ways to contribute to a conversation that can help shape a more inclusive and respectful university environment for everyone.

Speaker

Manraj Chahal

Working as the racial and religious discrimination adviser within the university, Manraj has worked 1:1 with students in exploring experiences of discrimination and repairing feelings of racial trauma and unbelonging. From being on the ground  and engaging on conversations from controversial portraits to forced migration, Manraj has learnt from students and staff and gained unique perspectives into the institutional nature of racism and how it manifests at Cambridge, and the impact it has on the student body.
